Ministry secys instructed to implement sanitation declaration

Kathmandu, March 13

Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi today instructed all ministry secretaries to implement the 10-point National Sanitation Declaration that was unveiled during a programme to mark the 200th week of the Bagmati Clean-up Campaign on Saturday.

Writing a letter to all the ministries and government subordinate bodies, Chief Secretary Subedi directed them to implement the declaration in a sustainable and organised manner, and instructed all to submit progress reports regularly.

The National Sanitation Declaration will be enforced from the new Nepalese year 2074 (mid-April).

The declaration states that all organisations, institutions, and agencies throughout the country must clean their office premises on the first week of every month from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, and all schools must clean their nearest public places on the second and fourth Friday of every month from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, or one hour before the school’s closing time.

Similarly, the declaration states that all municipalities must maintain greenery by establishing gardens and ornamental flowers on the premises of their respective offices, all institutions and organisations must avoid the use of plastic bags, and burning of plastic waste must be restricted.
