Mishaps claim 4 in the valley

KATHMANDU: A student was killed and another injured when a Nepal Yatayat bus hit the motorcycle they were riding on in Anamnagar today.

Pillion rider Tom Adhikari, a bachelor’s level student of Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, died while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu Model Hospital. Injured Santosh Paudel, a resident of Kathmandu, is undergoing treatment in the same hospital. SP Rabi Raj Shrestha at the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division said the bus driver involved in the accident was arrested from Jawalakhel. Investigation into the incident is underway. Following the incident, all the buses belonging to Nepal Yatayat halted services fearing retaliation from students.

Meanwhile, three persons, including an elderly woman, were killed in separate road accidents in the valley in the last 24 hours. According to police, a bicyclist was killed when a private car driven by a foreign national hit him in front of Sajha Petrol Pump in Lalitpur this morning. The deceased has been identified as 15-year-old Jeet Bahadur Waiba. The speeding car also banged into a roadside house, injuring one Ishwori Shrestha, 45. The police have arrested motorist David Medesi and impounded his car.

A Tata Mobile crushed an elderly woman at Gyangkhel, Kathmandu this morning. The 75-year-old woman succumbed to injuries while being taken to B&B Hospital. Akash Kafle, 18, was killed in a motorcycle mishap in front of Shital Niwas at Maharajgunj at 10: 30 pm yesterday.
