Missing ex-PM kin back after 80 days

Kathmandu, May 9:

Bidur Bahadur Thapa, 52, nephew of former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa, who had gone missing on February 18, returned home yesterday, clearing allegation that DSP Yog Bahadur Pal had kidnapped him.

Police said Thapa returned to his house at Bishalnagar, Dhumbarahi, yesterday evening.

“During a preliminary conversation Thapa said he had gone to India and didn’t disclose anything else,” SP Sarbendra Khanal at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, said.

He, however, informed that the police had traced his phone call from Banepa to his wife

Sangita. Several attempts to contact Thapa went in vain.

The day he went missing, Thapa was returning home after withdrawing money from a bank at Bishalbazaar.

As there had been a verbal dispute between Thapa’s wife and DSP Pal in the morning of the day Thapa went missing, his family and locals alleged that the police official had kidnapped Thapa and had demanded investigation into the incident.
