MJF supports UML for new govt

KATHMANDU: The Madheshi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) on Sunday decided to support the CPN-UML-led coalition to form the new government.

MJF chairman Upendra Yadav handed over a letter to the UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal at the latter's party office expressing the MJF's commitment to support UML for the formation of new government under the premiership of Madhav Kumar Nepal.

MJF Co-chairman JP Gupta said that MJF decided to support UML after Khanal expressed written commitment for the implementation of the eight-point agreement reached with the Madhes-based parties.

Meanwhile, a team of MJF leaders led by Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar met President of the Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala and UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal this morning. After the meeting, Gachchhadar claimed that MJF would join the UML-led government. "I will lead MJF in the new cabinet," he said.

UML, which has already collected over 290 signatures of the CA members, now secures a simple majority in the 601-member CA after getting support from the MJF to form the government.
