MoE reluctant to implement agreement with teachers
KATHMANDU: Though the Ministry of Education (MoE) signed a 14-point agreement with various teachers’ organisations two weeks ago, it does not seem to be willing to fulfil its commitment made in the agreement.
According to the agreement, the government was to direct the respective District Education Offices (DEO) to form a committee to investigate on the cases of teachers and employees sacked from their jobs from different schools across the nation. But the government has remained mum till date.
The committee would include representatives from Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON), National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation, Nepal (NPABSON), Nepal Educational Republic Forum and Nepal Institutional School Teachers’ Union (ISTU), Nepal Teachers Union, Loktantrik Teachers Union, Madheshi Teachers Forum and guardian’s associations among others.
Talking to The Himalayan Times, Hom Kumar Thapa, president of Nepal ISTU alleged the government for delaying the implementation of the agreement. He informed that teachers in Lalitpur, Parsa, Jhapa and Morang have been sacked from their jobs.
However, Laxman Khanal an official at the ministry said that the file on the agreement has been forwarded to the education minister to expedite the process.
