MoHA picks 11 SSPs for promotion to DIG

Kathmandu, October 7

Secretariat of the Promotion Committee under the Ministry of Home Affairs has published the name of 11 senior superintendents of police who were recommended for promotion to the post of deputy inspectors general as per the Police Regulations.

A three-member committee led by Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai had taken a decision to this effect yesterday. The committee also includes Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal and AIG Thule Rai.

The SSPs  recommended for promotion to DIG are Binod Sharma Ghimire, Bikash Shrestha, Thakur Prasad Gyawali, Purna Chandra Joshi, Tarini Prasad Lamsal, Shailesh Thapa Kshetri, Hari Bahadur Pal, Niraj Bahadur Shahi, Pradhymna Kumar Karki, Haribhakta Prajapati and Surya Prasad Upadhyay.

The Ministry of Home Affairs will have to submit the promotion list to the Council of Ministers for approval in accordance with the recommendation of the committee.

As per the regulations, any police employee not satisfied with the decision of the promotion committee may lodge a complaint with a three-member Complaint Hearing Committee led by chairperson of Public Service Commission within seven days. The CHC has chief secretary and secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs as its members.

The CHC shall give its decision on the complaint within 15 days. Recently, the Cabinet reduced the postings of AIGs to three from 15 ‘to develop Nepal Police in line with federal set-up’. The recommendation for the promotion of SSPs will pave the way for the promotion of SPs.
