MPCD alerts public in view of the soaring crime graph

KATHMANDU: Theft, burglary and robbery is at all time high during festive season in the Kathmandu Valley, the

Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, today cautioned the general public to be more careful to avoid such incidents.

In a bid to control such activities in the valley, the MPCD on its part had recently formed special task force and mobile teams for round-the-clock patrol.

In a press conference today, MPCD made public a gang of thieves. Birendra Babu Shrestha, Senior Superintendent of Police, MPCD, said Sujan Kumar Rai, Sukra Bahadur Tamang, Sagun Tamang and Phuccha alias

Buddha Lama were involved

in those kind of activities for

the last four years.

Nevertheless, despite the gang being nabbed,there were many others of the like who were still at large and the public needed to be cautious, he said.

However, it has been observed that cases of thefts were decreasing since the special task force came into being, Shrestha claimed.

Chakra Bahadur Tamang, Roshan Tamang, Sukaram Tamang, Chenga Tamang were among the others nabbed by the special taskforce of crime division recently. According to Shrestha, the thieves were involved in some 60 incidents. The public had lodged 14 complaints against them, he said.

Shrestha also disclosed that

the gang involved in thefts present themselves as carpenters, painter etc. to get the information

about houses.

The police have already initiated necessary investigation into the incidents, he added.
