KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 18

Parliamentarians have called on the government to take immediate diplomatic and political initiatives to ensure the safety of Nepali students studying in India.

During the emergency time of today's House of Representatives meeting, they urged the government to coordinate with Indian authorities to investigate the death of Prakriti Lamsal from Butwal, a student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, and to ensure the security of other Nepali students there.

Lawmakers Chhabi Lal Bishwokarma, Madhav Sapkota, Dhurba Bahadur Pradhan, and Thakur Gaire demanded a thorough investigation into Lamsal's mysterious death, action against those responsible, and security assurances for Nepali students at KIIT.

Similarly, Prabhu Sah called the government's attention to ensuring safe transportation, drinking water, sanitation, medical services, and security at the site of the Shivaratri festival.

Lawmaker Dr. Toshima Karki emphasized that the government should update the House on financial irregularities at the Nepal Red Cross Society and launch an investigation into the matter.
