MTPD takes action against 57 cabs, private cars
KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has taken action against 57 taxis and private cars operating at Tribhuvan International Airport. The Division rounded up these many vehicles from July 20 to 23.
Action was taken against these vehicles for cheating passengers. MTPD Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Surendra Prasad Mainali, said the Division had mobilised policemen in plain clothes after getting complaints from passengers that the taxis operating on metres were overcharging the passengers, and some private cars and jeeps were also used as taxis.
President of Nepal Metre Taxi Entrepreneurs Association, Arjun Gautam, said that taxis refusing to follow the rule should be punished. He also said that private cars and jeeps should not be allowed to carry passengers.
There are 10,600 taxis operating in Kathmandu valley at present, according to the Department of Transport Management.
