Murder can be costly if guilty spared: Maoists
KATHMANDU; Politburo member of UCPN Maoist Shakti Bahadur Basnet today said the ‘murder’ of Rishi Gautam ‘Rahul’, senior secretariat member of their Bheri Karnali State Committee (BKSC), can be costly for the government, should the guilty escape punishment. Gautam was killed ‘in the guise of accident’.
“The government should probe into the ‘murder’, lest it would come costly to this government,” Basnet warned, while addressing a corner meet at Shanti Batika, following a protest rally against the incident.
He also alleged that the government was protecting the criminals involved in the murder of their leaders and cadres. It must be recalled here that Basnet was also shot at during the Prachanda-led government.
Earlier today, BKSC organised a protest rally here in the capital, protesting the ‘killing’ of Gautam. The rally that began from Maitighar Mandala went through Thapathali, Tripureswor, Sundhara, and Bir Hospital before it converged into a corner meet at Shanti Batika.
The participants chanted slogans demanding among other things an immediate probe into the accident, bringing the guilty to books, declaring Gautam a martyr, providing appropriate compensation to the next of kin and resignation and apology of home minister for failing to provide security to the people.
