Muslim body on warpath
KATHMANDU: Demanding implementation of a six-point agreement reached with the government earlier, the United Muslim National Struggle Committee today warned that it would resort to agitation if the government continued neglecting its rightful demands.
“We are always sidelined by the government and there is no sign that the government will implement the past agreement sometime soon,” said Juned Ansari, coordinator of the committee. The Muslim body had reached the six-point agreement a year ago.
Organising a press meet in the capital, the Muslim leaders urged the government to respect the ethnic diversity. “There should be freedom of religion and any religion should not be looked down,” said Gulam Rasul, general secretary of the body. The committee also informed that their former coordinator Mohammad Miya betrayed the committee by engaging in personal benefit.
“The six-point agreement, which was possible after several rounds of talks, must be implemented. Otherwise, the government will be responsible for the consequences,” added Ansari.
