NA bats for Sharma’s promotion

KATHMANDU: Senior officials of the Nepali Army have been lobbying for the promotion of its legal department chief BA Kumar Sharma for the post of Major General.

According to a source, the army headquarters had recently forwarded a proposal to the cabinet to promote Sharma, who has been heading the Legal Department of the army, as a special officer.

“Though we have forwarded the proposal, the cabinet has yet to give

its nod,” the source added. The NA wants to make all its members on the same level with the judges of the appellate courts, as the Legal Department Chief is a member of the Army Special Court headed by appellate court judges to look

into the appeals of court-martials.

The Defence Secretary is also another member judge of the Army Special Court. But Sharma is a first class gazetted officer, therefore, the NA wants to promote him to a special class officer as a Major General.Currently appeal judge Purusottam Prasad Bhandari has been heading
