NAC Airbus carrying remains of 12 Nepalis takes off Kabul Airport

KATHMANDU: A special aircraft of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), sent to Kabul to bring the bodies of 12 Nepalis killed in suicide attack on Monday, has taken off the Kabul Airport on Wednesday.

The aircraft has also airlifted 24 other Nepalis working in Afghanistan.

The government on Tuesday had said that it was ready to evacuate Nepalis working in Afghanistan if they wanted to return home.

The flight will land at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at around 3 pm.

It has been learned that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will also visit theĀ  the TIA while the plane lands.

As many as 12 Nepali security guards were killed and seven others injured when a suspected Taliban suicide bomber targeted a minibus they were travelling in, in the Afghan Capital.

The Nepalis were on their way to the Canadian Embassy where they were working as guards.

The ill-fated Nepalis were hired by a British security consultancy firm, Sabre International, for the security of Kabul-based Canadian mission.

Following the gruesome murder, the Government of Nepal on Tuesday had decided to send an aircraft to Afghanistan to bring home the remains of those killed in the attack.
