Nagpokhari fest from Aug 18

Kathmandu, July 31:

The Nagpokhari Development Committee (NDC) is organising the Nagpokhari Festival-2007 from August 18. The yearly event aims at promoting local tourism and conserving monuments with cultural significance.

The three-day festival will have almost every-thing that will lure valley denizens to it, organisers said.

The festival that will kick off on Nag Panchami will see religious activities and rallies and cultural programmes. Organises promise a treat for citizens of every age group.

The pond will be open for boating during the festival and an exhibition held on local handicrafts and arts, while food stalls will provide local Newari cuisines.

“We have many monuments of cultural importance in our city, but their significance has been ignored. Very few people are aware of their historical value, though they pass by the place everyday,” said Kiroj Man Singh, the general secretary of the NDC.

This festival aims to make people aware of “our cultural heritage and will them an opportunity to respect the site,” he said.
