KATHMANDU, JANUARY 16
The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has launched a five-day program aimed at empowering women educators from schools in Bhaktapur district with essential digital literacy skills.
In a press release issued today, NAST said the initiative focuses on equipping women teachers with the ability to enhance their digital proficiency, navigate social networks, and raise awareness about cybersecurity, ensuring they remain well-versed in the latest computer applications.
The program blends practical, hands-on training with access to a range of digital resources, providing participants with the tools to expand their digital competencies.
A total of 21 women educators from 14 schools in Bhaktapur are actively taking part in the camp, which is a collaborative effort between NAST and Women in Information Technology (WIIT), with local facilitation by Shree Padma Secondary School, Engineers with Border, Ashakaji Basukala Memorial Foundation, and Scholar Education Institute (SEI), according to the statement.
The mobile training unit, equipped with 19 laptops, a smartboard, projectors, ePodium, CCTV cameras, a sound system, and Wi-Fi, allows participants to access educational materials, connect to the internet, and enhance their digital skills.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Science and Technology Information System Centre (STISC)-Information Access Centre under NAST's umbrella. NAST has been using its 'Mobile Information Access Bus' for the past three years to bridge the digital divide in various districts across Nepal, reads the statement.
Furthermore, NAST continues to organize similar programs in remote areas to reduce the digital gap and bring digital connectivity to underserved communities and students across the country, it said in the statement.
