Elections inevitable to decentralise govt power, says PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday stated that the elections were inevitable in order to decentralise the government's power to the local level.

Receiving the annual report of the National Information Commission, PM Dahal said that disappointment in people would increase if the elections were put off for a longer period.

"The new Constitution has ensured rights of the legislative, the executive and the judiciary to the citizens at the grassroots," the PM said, "And to implement the Constitution, elections are the only way out."

PM Dahal also stressed the importance of information in a democratic system, adding, "It is the age of information and no good can be done by censoring the information."

On the occasion, NIC Chief Commissioner Krishnahari Baskota, Commissioners Yashoda Timsina and Kiran Kumar Pokharel had requested the PM to table the report on right to information in the Parliament for discussions.
