NRDA submits letter to president

Kathmandu, August 7

National Resident Doctors Association submitted a letter to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today to draw her attention to the deteriorating health condition of Dr Govinda KC.

In the letter submitted to President Bhandari, NRDA members requested her to resolve the problem immediately.

Expressing their solidarity with the orthopaedic surgeon, who has been staging a fast-unto-death for the past 14 days, NRDA President Dr Kaschev Shrestha said the decision to meet the president was necessary as the health condition of the surgeon was deteriorating each day. “It is also to pile pressure on the government,” added Dr Shrestha.

NRDA has been boycotting academic activities in the Institute of Medicine and also the Out-patient Department at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Dr KC’s support, according to Dr Shrestha.

The senior orthopaedic surgeon has demanded immediate passage of the Medical Education Act as per the recommendation made by Professor Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led panel.

Dr KC began his fast-unto-death for the eleventh time stating that the government had failed to address his demands to bring reforms in the medical sector in the country.

MBBS students’ union from the Patan Academy of Health Sciences have also supported Dr KC’s hunger strike.
