NC is the only socialist-democratic party: Party president Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has claimed that NC is the only party in the country that adheres to the principle of democratic socialism.

Addressing a youth conference jointly organized by the International Union of Socialist Youth, Nepal Students Union and Nepal Tarun Dal here today, leader Deuba reiterated that Congress is the only party that has been striving for democracy since its establishment.

The former Prime Minister said that there exist tendencies to devalue the constitutionally enshrined fundamental rights and democratic provisions.

Stating that decade-long conflict was resolved and peace process was successfully concluded under NC's leadership, Deuba also reminded that the Federal Republican Democratic constitution was also promulgated under NC's leadership.

Speaking at the programme, NC Vice-President Bimalendra Nidhi echoed with Deuba's statements and asserted that the country had received constitution with the features such as federalism, republicanism and democracy under the congress led government.

He added the successful conclusion of the three-tier elections to NC's merit list.

Likewise, NC General Secretary Dr Sashank Koirala opined that the incumbent government had not been able to deliver the promises it had earlier made.

Stating that Nepal had robust potential of natural resources, he pointed out the need for one and all to march ahead in unison for the greater good of the country in the wake of achieving political stability in the country.

Joint General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat accused the incumbent government of only selling dreams to the people and that the government was more into propaganda than achieving results.

Present at the three-day conference were former President of Tarun Dal and former Minister of State for Finance Udaya Shumsher Rana, office-bearers of the Union of Socialist Youth, Nepal Students Union President Nain Singh Mahar, President of the Tarun Dal, Jit Jung Basnet among others.

They shed light on the role of the youths in establishing democracy across the globe.
