Telecom operator submits CCTV evidence after arson, looting during Gen Z protests
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 15
Ncell has filed a formal complaint with the Kathmandu District Police following a violent attack on its headquarters, Ncell Icon in Lainchaur, during the Gen Z protests on September 9.
In its complaint, the telecom company said criminal groups used the protests as cover to break into the ten-story building, threaten security guards, vandalize offices, and set property on fire.
According to the company, attackers allegedly locked guards in a room, smashed glass panels, and vandalised offices. They reportedly set fire to equipment and looted cash, company safes, land ownership papers, original certificates, and other critical documents.
Ncell said valuable office equipment-including computers, televisions, printers, and gym gear-was destroyed or stolen, while employees' personal lockers were ransacked and vehicles inside the premises were burned. Several company-owned and third-party rental vehicles were also torched in the courtyard and nearby streets, causing extensive financial losses.
The telecom operator has provided CCTV footage and a full inventory of damaged and stolen property to assist the investigation. It has urged authorities to arrest the culprits, recover stolen assets, and ensure prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. Ncell said the total loss is still being assessed.
