NEA MD Mukesh Raj Kafle gives in to political pressure

KATHMANDU: Nepal Electricity Authority's Managing Director Mukesh Raj Kafle on Friday resigned, apparently due to undue pressure from the government.

It had been reported that both Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma had been exerting pressure on Kafle to put in papers.

Kafle, who was appointed the chief executive of the government-owned power monopoly in October 2014 by the then Sushil Koirala-led government through open competition, tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Dahal instead of the line minister.

Of late, Minister Sharma had been complaining about under-performance of Kafle at various political meetings, and even with media.
