Nembang assures persons with disabilities of their rights in statute

KATHMANDU: Constituent Assembly (CA) Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang has pledged to do his best to ensure that rights of people with disabilities are enshrined in the new constitution.

Talking to representatives of the National Federation of the Disabled-Nepal (NFDN), CA Chairman Nembang said although the new constitution can not incorporate rights of all, it will incorporate some rights as it is the common document of all.

Representatives of the Federation were there to submit a memorandum to Chairman Nembang.

He further said the new statute will lead the country towards a new political path as the new constitution will be promulgated as a document of common consensus of all political parties.

The CA Chairman, meanwhile, lauded the role played by persons with disabilities in the 2006 people's movement.

The Federation had submitted a three-point memo to CA Chairman Nembang, said Federation President Sudarshan Subedi.

The memo demands five per cent reservation in the Proportional Representation seats in the federal legislature and similar proportion in the National Assembly and the state assemblies.
