Nepal Bar Association election postponed
Kathmandu, November 30
Nepal Bar Association postponed its election for Executive Committee scheduled for January 9.
According to NBA Vice-president Tikaram Bhattarai, the executive committee decided to postpone the election keeping in mind the requests made by some chapters of NBA from Tarai districts, as well as suggestions of past presidents of the lawyers’ umbrella body.
The NBA has rescheduled its election for March 19, 2016. NBA elects its executive committee through election every two years.
Madhesi lawyers had suggested that the NBA postpone its election as Madhesi lawyers across the Tarai were taking part in the agitation launched by the Untied Democratic Madhesi Front.
Some chapters of the NBA had also written to the Central Office requesting postponement of the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, Madhesi lawyers today staged a protest outside Singha Durbar gate demanding negotiated settlement of constitutional issues raised by agitating Madhesi parties. They also demanded ‘end to the violation of human rights in Madhes.’
Advocate Sunil Ranjan Singh said the Madhesi lawyers’ protest in front of Singha Durbar was in support of the ongoing Madhes agitation.
