Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal returned home on Wednesday after concluding a four-day official visit to China, during which Nepal and China discussed expanding cooperation in infrastructure, connectivity, energy, trade, investment, tourism, technology and border management.
During delegation-level talks in Beijing on Monday, Foreign Minister Khanal and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi reviewed all aspects of bilateral relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Nepal-China ties based on friendship and mutual cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal reiterated its commitment to the One-China policy and assured that Nepali territory would not be used against China's interests. China, in turn, reaffirmed its support for Nepal's sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence, and expressed support for Nepal's priorities of good governance and economic development.
The two sides also discussed expanding cooperation in infrastructure, connectivity, border management, energy, trade, investment, agriculture, technology transfer, information technology and digitalisation, tourism, chemical fertilisers, petroleum and natural gas exploration, and people-to-people relations. The two sides also discussed expediting the implementation of previously agreed bilateral projects and enhancing cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.
During the visit, Khanal held separate meetings with senior Chinese leaders, including CPPCC Chairman Wang Huning and Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. He also attended an investment conference organised by the Nepali Embassy in Beijing and invited Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Nepal.
The foreign minister visited the White Pagoda in Beijing, designed by Nepali architect Araniko, and toured the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research and Zhongguancun Science Park.
In a statement upon his return, Khanal said the visit had contributed to strengthening Nepal-China relations and advancing Nepal's economic and development diplomacy.
