NCP diaspora committees finalised in 20 countries

Kathmandu April 3

A task force led by Spokesperson for the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Narayan Kaji Shrestha has finalised diaspora committees in 20 countries.

NCP has diaspora committees in 36 countries. Of the 20 committees finalised so far 12 fall under former UML while eight will be led by erstwhile CPN-MC.

NCP’s diaspora committees have a total of 2,500 active cadres. The task force has tentatively finalised the names for the coordinators and secretaries of the committees too. The NCP Secretariat had formed a task force under Shrestha in August to finalise the unity modality of diaspora committees.

“We have not announced officially, but 20 committees have been almost finalised,” said a member of the task force Yubraj Chaulagai.  According to him, the task force will submit its complete report to the secretariat after finalising all the committees.

Each committee will have 35 members, including a coordinator and a secretary.

According to sources, erstwhile UML is likely to lead the committees in the USA, Canada, Finland, Portugal, Russia, Check Republic, Italy, France, Poland, Germany, Norway, Qatar, New Zealand, Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, South Korea, Hong Kong and India. Likewise, erstwhile CPN-MC will lead the committees in Japan, Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Cyprus, Malaysia and Macau. However, cadres of both the former parties have claimed leadership in Australia and Spain.
