Nepal media record murders of 10 women in a month

KATHMANDU: Ten women were killed and 27 others including adolescent girls became victims of rape in the nation in the month Chait (March 14 to April 12), according to a media monitoring report.

The media monitoring carried out by Sancharika Samuha showed that most of the victims were in the 10-15 age group. The Samuha had monitored 15 national dailies for its study.

The Samuha stated in its report that in course of the monitoring, it found the space given to the news related to violence against women by the media was satisfactory.

The monitoring report categorised the perpetrators of violence against women as family members, neighbours, the state, unknown perpetrators and others.

The dailies included in the study include Gorakhapatra, Nagarik, Naya Ptrika, Himalaya Times, Karobar, Rajdhani, Annapurna Post, Nepal Samacharpatra, Commander Post, Sourya Dainik, Nepali Dainik vernacular dailies and The Kathmandu Post, Republica, The Himalayan Times and The Rising Nepal English language dailies.
