NC lawmakers obstruct National Assembly meet

Kathmandu, July 24

The National Assembly meeting was disrupted today following a dispute between the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and main opposition Nepali Congress over who would speak first.

After NA Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina allowed NCP (NCP) Chief Whip Khim Lal Bhattarai to speak first, NC  lawmakers stood from their seats and obstructed the proceedings.

NC lawmakers were preparing to speak about Dr Govinda KC’s hunger strike, law minister’s statement and the administration’s use of force on peaceful protest staged by NC youth wing Tarun Dal on Saturday.

“We were not allowed to speak in the House,” said the NC Chief Whip Surendra Pandey.

However, NCP (NCP) Chief Whip Bhattarai said the NC didn’t allow them to speak. “I don’t know why they didn’t allow us to speak,” Bhattarai said.

Later, NA Chair Timilsina postponed the meeting for Wednesday.

According to a source, NC lawmakers obstructed the meeting as they were not in the mood to listen to NCP (NCP) lawmakers.
