Nepali Congress nominates Rai as Presidential candidate
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has decided to field Laxmi Rai as the candidate for the post of President.
A meeting of the Central Working Committee of the NC held at party headquarters in Sanepa this morning took the decision to this effect, according to Govinda Pariyar, press advisor to the NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Rai, daughter of martyr Dewan Singh Rai, is a former central committee member of the party and a former lawmaker.
The meeting also discussed about filing candidacies for Vice-President, Speaker, Deputy-Speaker, Chairperson, and Vice-Chairperson of the National Assembly.
The standing committee meeting of the ruling CPN-UML held on Tuesday had decided to field incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari as the candidate for President.
The election to the post of President is taking place on March 13.
