Nepali vet presents paper in India

Kathmandu, December 2:

A Nepali veterinarian presented a paper on Prevalence of Cysticercosis in Slaughtered Pigs and Occurrence of Neurocysticercosis in Human in Kathmandu Valley Nepal, at a symposium held at Anand Agricultural University, Gujrat, India recently.

The two-day symposium on the theme Horizons of Veterinary Public Health in Augmenting Veterinary, Medical and Environmental Health was organised by the Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS). The programme was attended by some 250 veterinarians from India and abroad.

Presenting his paper, Dr Buddhi Sapkota also highlighted the present scenario of neurosysticercosis in human beings in Nepal and its correlation with the epileptic patients.

According to his findings, about 43 per cent of the patients who visited hospitals due to epileptic conditions are diagnosed with neurosysticercosis. Neurocysticercosis occurs as a result of consumption of improperly cooked, raw and partially cooked pork and vegetables. The seminar was also attended by another Nepali veterinarian Dr Sital Kaji Shrestha.
