Nepal's acting ambassador survives knife attack in Saudi Arabia

KATHMANDU: Nepal's Acting Ambassador in Saudi Arabia, Ananda Prasad Sharma, survived a knife attack on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The Office of the Spokesperson at the MoFA said a Nepali national who was taking shelter at the Embassy currently resorted to the knife attack on the Charge d'Affaires Ad Interim Sharma.

Sharma was working at the Riyadh-based office while the assailant approached him.

"The Ministry condemns the incident against the diplomatic official," the statement read, adding the Embassy has been directed to look into the issue and report to the Ministry at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Sharma has been taken to the King Faisal Hospital in Riyadh. The Hospital sources said he is out of danger.

The suspect has already been nabbed by the Saudi Police.

Motive behind the attack is not known yet.
