KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 9

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung, who is also the government's spokesperson, today said that the government would soon issue new directives to regulate social networking sites.

Minister Gurung said at a press conference here today that the government had decided to issue new directives as some people were making objectionable remarks in the name of freedom of expression and some online and social networking sites were giving space to such objectionable remarks. He also said that objectionable remarks were made against the president as well.

The government is committed to respect the freedom of expression guaranteed by the constitution, but some people have made inflammatory remarks in the name of freedom of expression and those remarks are directed against the president also, such remarks are being given space in online media and social networking sites, Gurung said and added that the government would enforce new directives to regulate the conduct of those online and social networking sites that were operating without being registered with the relevant government bodies.
