New TMOs come into operation

Kathmandu, March 19

People can now acquire driving licence or get it renewed from all three transport management offices recently established in Thulo Bharyang and Sukedhara of Kathmandu, and Jagati of Bhaktapur.

So far, the Ekantakuna-based Transport Management Office had been providing these services to the public. A notice issued by the Department of Transport Management stated that interested and eligible persons could apply for new licence at the new offices based in Thulo Bharyang, Sukedhara and Jagati. The offices also provide licence renewal service.

The expansion of transport management offices is expected to help the public acquire driving licence without much hassle. The DoTM has also started distributing smart licence. The newly-established TMOs have taken a private trial ground on lease for practical test and have reduced the work burden being shouldered by the Ekantakuna office for decades in Bagmati zone.

With this, there are now four TMOs in Kathmandu Valley. The new offices and Ekantakuna-based TMO are receiving 500 online applications for licence to reduce queues for submission of hard-copy application forms.

The online system aims to make driving licence application process efficient and hassle-free. This service will be available in Bagmati zone for two-wheelers only until its expansion to other zonal offices. The new offices also receive application online through one-window system to avoid duplication and bring about transparency in issuance of licence.
