Newspaper classification ‘meaningless’

Kathmandu, August 1:

Struggle Committee against Discriminatory Classification has called for the annulment of the Press Council’s media classification report, calling it ‘discriminatory’ and ‘unscientific’.

Organising a press conference in Dillibazaar today, the SCDC said it had submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Information and Communication, Department of Information, Press Council, Federation of Nepali Journalists, Press Chautari and Press Union demanding the annulment of the report and compensation for several weeklies and dailies for the loss they incurred as the council failed to publish the report on time.

Journalist Ramchandra Humagain accused the council of publishing the report by keeping some members of the classification committee in the dark.
