NGF to provide scholarship to 250 kids

The foundation will provide Rs 20,000 each to 425 carpet weavers from 13 quake-affected districts

Nepal Goodweave Foundation today announced scholarships to 250 children of carpet factory workers in 13 districts affected by the earthquakes.

Speaking at a program held in the capital, Lubha Raj Neupane, executive director, NGF said the foundation would provide scholarships for a year to children of carpet factory workers.

He said the NGF had decided to build concrete houses worth Rs 200,000 for 95 families of carpet weavers in Sindhupalchok district.

“Furthermore, the foundation will provide Rs 20,000 each to 425 carpet weavers from 13 earthquake-affected districts  Solukhumbu, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Okhaldhunga, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Kavre, Kathmandu, Gorkha, Dolakha, Dhading, Bhaktapur and Sindhupalchok,” he said.

“We have long-term plans to provide free education to 950 children and housing and livelihood support to 800 families of carpet factory workers and counseling support on need basis in the coming days,” he said, adding that the foundation has already provided short-term or immediate support to earthquake affected people in various districts.

“NGF has already provided immediate relief support to 6,684 workers, including children in 250 carpet factories,” he said.

He added saying, “It has distributed 28,828 kg of rice, 3,868 kg of pulses, 2,851 kg of beaten rice, 194 pieces of mattresses, 1,260 pieces of soaps, 1,486 packets of biscuits and 141 tents in the past.”
