NHRC Chair blames govt for ignorance

KATHMANDU: Chairperman of the National Human Rights Commission Anup Raj Sharma has complained that the recommendations that the Commission has been making to the government have not been implemented.

Speaking at the eight anniversary function of FIAN Nepal here today, he said repeated requests made by the Commission to have the recommendations enforced have not been addressed.

"The recommendation made for action against those found guilty in the Godar incident of Janakpur has also not been taken into account by the government", he said.

Stating that the right to food is the moat basic of human rights, Sharma emphasised the need to exert pressure on the political parties to ensure that the economic, social and cultural rights were guaranteed.

Human rights activists Subodh Raj Pyakurel, Ganesh BK and Chairperson of FIAN Nepal Sarbaraj Khadka called for attention of the state towards ensuring the right to food of the people.
