NHRC likely to close Shivpuri case

Kathmandu, February 14:

A member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Gauri Pradhan, today said the rights body would most probably decide not to dig up the Shivpuri area, a suspected burial site, tomorrow.

He made this comment after the NHRC received a joint report from domestic and foreign experts who analysed evidence on the case and submitted the report to the rights body today.

“There are several reasons that we would most probably decide not to dig up the area,” Pradhan told this daily. “But we have been studying the report as the experts have given different views,” Pradhan added.

Visiting foreign experts and the domestic experts have submitted the report after completing their weeks long study on Shivpuri case. The NHRC had invited Finnish Prof Helena Ranta and Prof Pekka Saukko to conduct an investigation in the Shivpuri area.
