KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 19

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on the government to expedite the peace process by establishing a credible commission.

The NHRC emphasized the need to prioritize victims' concerns and implement its prior recommendations. It urged the government to conclude the peace process in alignment with international standards and principles.

In a press statement marking the 18th anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) signed between the government and the then-rebel CPN (Maoist), NHRC Spokesperson Dr. Tikaram Pokhrel highlighted the importance of fulfilling national and international commitments to ensure justice for victims.

The statement also welcomed the recent progress in forming commissions following the passage of the Transitional Justice Bill in Parliament, viewing it as a positive step forward.
