NHRC yet to get Shivpuri site report

Kathmandu, January 21:

The domestic experts’ committee, which has been carrying out an investigation to check whether 49 detainees, who disappeared from the Bhairavnath battalion of the Nepal Army, have been buried at a site in Shivpuri, is yet to submit its report to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

“The committee is yet to submit its report to us,” NHRC member Gauri Pradhan told this daily today. According to him, the domestic experts want to hold discussions with foreign experts before submitting their report.

The NHRC has expressed hope that foreign experts will arrive in Nepal soon to inspect the

site. “I hope we will be able to reach a conclusion once foreign experts arrive here and examine the site,” he added.

Under the coordination of Dr Harihar Wasti, the four-member committee has been investigating the case. The NHRC formed the committee to find out whether or not 49 people, who disappeared from the Bhairavnath battalion of the Nepal Army, were killed and buried in the Shivpuri area.

Nearly one month ago, members of the committee had visited the site, collected evidence and sealed the site, preventing unauthorised persons from visiting it.
