Nine-point-agreement between Dr KC and govt, positive: NC lawmakers
KATHMANDU: "The National Medical Education Bill, 2075 BS" has been presented in today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, presented the Bill in the second meeting of the Lower House.
Presenting the Bill, Minister Pokhrel said the government is taking a proactive approach to implementing rights of people's access to education and health services.
Lawmakers Gagan Kumar Thapa and Sarita Giri, who had lodged a note of protest over the Bill, withdrew the protest while a note of protest registered by Nepal Workers and Peasants' Party lawmaker Prem Suwal was refused by the meeting with a majority.
Stating that the government could not forcefully proceed with the earlier Bill, leader Rijal said the agreement reached to address the demands of Dr KC was itself a victory of sovereign people.
In response, Minister Pokhrel pledged to take the agreement ahead with priority.
Lawmakers Gagan Kumar Thapa, Devendra Raj Kandel, Dila Sangraula, Laxmi Pariyar, Uma Regmi, Ram Bahadur Bista, Prakash Rasali, and Prem Suwal termed the agreement as positive.
Meanwhile, Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chief Whip, Dev Prasad Gurung, remarked that the National Medical Education Bill presented at the House of Representatives would go ahead as per the parliamentary process.
Gurung said the amendment to provisions of the Bill would be made considering suggestions from the government.
