NMA demands fair investigation in Mediciti attempt to rape case

Kathmandu, November 27

Nepal Medical Association has called for fair investigation in attempt to rape charge levelled against Dr Rohit Kumar Jha, a general physician in Mediciti Hospital. He has been accused of  attempting to rape a 30-year-old patient.

Dr Jha, 37, was arrested from the hospital premises by police deployed from Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, on Monday.

The arrest was made after the woman, who had gone to the hospital for whole body check-up on November 24, filed an FIR accusing Dr Jha of attempting to rape her.

Dr Lochan Karki, NMA’s general secretary said, “Until now, we don’t know who is guilty and who is innocent. We demand fair investigation with extra precaution, not to defame any one in the case,” Dr Karki said.

Mediciti Hospital has suspended Dr Jha following the accusation levelled against him. Media Co-ordinator of the hospital Manita Pokharel said the hospital had decided to suspend Dr Jha for certain period of time to support police for fair investigation.

District Court, Lalitpur, has remanded Jha to four-day police custody for further investigation.
