No-go zone flouted in Thamel
KATHMANDU: Locals at tourist hub, Thamel came down heavily against the government decision to declare the 120-meter area— from Kathmandu Guest House Chowk to Nursing Chowk— a no-go zone for vehicles. Soon after Kiyoshi Baba, a senior traffic volunteer from JICA Nepal announced that the decision to this effect came into force beginning 10.00 am, hundreds of locals drove their vehicles to the restricted zone. The locals complained that the decision was taken unilaterally. “Either the vehicles be forbidden in all parts of Thamel or the decision revoked,” argued a local.
