No respite from local bodies stir

KATHMANDU: The service delivery in the local bodies across the country was halted as the strike called by the agitating employees entered its fourth day today.

Hundreds of people who are in desperate need of passports; citizenship cards and other official documents are left in the lurch due to the shutdown of the offices. The employees of all the 75 District Development Committees, 58 municipalities and 3,915 Village Development Committees across the nation launched their agitation on December 15, demanding permanent status to temporary employees and facilities on par with the civil servants. The agitating employees also demand for career development and trade union rights.

"The government has not responded to us till today. Thus, the strike will continue," said Gangadhar Gautam, president of the Local Body Employees Union.
