NSU takes up detained students’ cause with OCE

Kathmandu, April 10:

The Nepal Students Union today appealed the Office of Controller of Examination (OCE) for special consideration regarding students detained during demonstration against the regressive forces.

Issuing a press release here today, NSU stated that hundreds of the detained students are to appear in the examinations that are scheduled to start tomorrow, and requested the OCE for special consideration and allow these students to sit for the examinations at a later date.

The NSU has also demanded the immediate release of its cadres. The central members Irshad Ansari, Badri Aryal, Rajan Pant, Madhukar Khanal, Kailash Koirala, Basu Koirala and Himal Shrestha were arrested during a demonstration at Ratnapark. Kundan Kafle, FSU chairman of Pashupati Multiple Campus, and Santosh Pandey, NUS president of the campus unit, were arrested by security personnel in mufti, while they were preparing for a mini-referendum on the relevence of monarchy. Baladev Sharma, NSU joint-secretary, said the referendum with three options: constitutional monarchy, democratic republic and active monarchy will be held on Sunday in the campus. Two students were arrested from Padmakanya Campus.The NSU has condemned police intervention in the peaceful anti-regression rally.
