Kathmandu: The second national convention of the Nepal Women’s Association (NWA), a sister organisation of the Nepali Congress, has elected Ambika Basnet the president of the NWA. Basnet got 246 votes. Close to Basnet was a former president of the NWA, Meena Pandey, who got 214 votes. Basnet, Pandey and Kamala Thapa were candidates for the president’s post. Kamala Thapa got 91 votes. Chandra Devi Joshi, Rajeswori Singh, Anita Devkota, Belauti Devi Khanal, Malati Sodari, Maya Rana, Sabitri Chaudhary, Sushma Murbari, and Rukmani Koirala were elected members of the central committee of the NWA.
