Bhaktapur, May 27:

Due to the lengthy process of the Department of Education (DoE), the Office of Controller of Examination (OCE) would be deprived of utilising the computers and printers provided as grant under the Secondary Education And Support Programme (SESP) for this year. “When all the procedures were near completion, the DoE demanded the No Objection Letter (NOL) that has lead to delaying of buying the computers and printers,” said Baliram Singh, deputy controller at Office of Controller of Examination. Singh said that the NOL was received last evening but the lengthy process of calling for bid would delay the process. “The OCE will be able to utilise the computers next year only, that too if there are no obstructions from the concerned departments, be it government or the consumers,” said Singh. The OCE was about to get Rs 1 crore and 42 lakh for the computers and printers as a grant from the ADB under the SESP but the proposal was not sanctioned by the DoE and demanded the NOL on Monday. The OCE was about to get Rs 82 lakh for 82 computers and Rs 60 lakh to buy 38 printers. The DoE has stalled the process. The DoE asked for the NOL from the ADB at the last moment. According to an official at the DoE, it was a formality and had to be followed.

Due to bandhs, the SLC result expected to be out by June 14 has been postponed. According to Singh, the result might be out by the third week of June. According to the OCE, this year, 3,02,950 students appeared for the examination out of which regular students were 41,894 while the exempted students were 61,056.
