OHCHR seeks fair share for women, marginalised in CA
Lalitpur, April 20:
Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Lena Sundh, today said that the OHCHR-Nepal has written to the Speaker of the Parliament to ensure a fair representation of women and other historically under-represented groups in the constituent assembly.
Referring to the recommendation forwarded to the Speaker, Sundh said that the provision of a fair representation of these groups should figure in the Constituent Assembly Members’ Election Bill. Sundh said the OHCHR is also working with the UN Country Team in Nepal towards this end.
Addressing the inaugural session of a consultation meeting on ‘Nepali Women’s Charter for Equity and Just Peace’, Sundh said: “We recommended that 33 per cent of candidates in the election for the first-past-the-post system be women.
