KATHMANDU, JANUARY 13
National Assembly lawmaker Bamdev Gautam has accused KP Sharma Oli of being the main architect of the recent political chaos.
Addressing the National Assembly today, Gautam also spoke against parties' tendency to forge alliance to contest elections and be part of a different alliance to form the government.
He wondered why the Nepali Congress chose to back the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government in the vote of confidence.
Nepali Congress lawmaker Prakash Pantha said his party decided to vote in favour of Dahal during the vote of confidence mainly to prevent the government from compromising on the ideals of the constitution due to coalition partners' unreasonable demands. NC has entered the playground not as a player but as a referee, he said.
Pantha wondered why Oli, the chairman of the CPN-UML, was disturbed by the NC's decision to back Dahal government.
Another NC lawmaker Jitendra Narayan Dev urged Dahal to keep fighting for change as he did as 'Prachanda'.
He said Resham Chaudhary and other Tharu 'political prisoners' should be released.
Dev said that the Dahal government needed to spur development, speed up service delivery, and control corruption. "If the Dahal government does not work as per peoples' expectations, the NC will have to review its support to the government," he added.
CPN-UML lawmaker Bhairab Sundar Shrestha said the UML took the initiative to form a new coalition after the five-party alliance led by the NC split. He said the NC could have served the country better had it not voted in favour of the government.
The government had enough support and it did not need the NC's support.
Khim Lal Devkota, an independent lawmaker, presented the report prepared by NA taskforce to identify problems seen in the implementation of federalism. In November, the Federalism Implementation Study and Monitoring Committee formed by the NA had prepared a report identifying problems in implementing federalism and ways to resolve them.
