One hurt in firing near army officer’s house

Kathmandu, April 23:

One person was injured when a security guard opened fire at a group of five or six suspects lurking around the house of Brigadier General Shyam Bahadur Thapa at Koteshwore this morning. According to the Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) Public Relations Directorate, one Kumar Rokka, a resident of Sunkhani, Kavrepalanchowk district, and an employee of CPCS, a local non-governmental organisation, sustained injuries in the firing. He is undergoing treatment at the Bir hospital and his condition is said to be stable. Investigation into to the incident is underway, stated the Directorate. Meanwhile, security forces arrested seven persons who were extorting money in the name of the Maoists from the residents of the Balaju bus park area of Kathmandu district yesterday. The Directorate went on to state security forces had confiscated six guns and combat fatigues from the Bihariya area of Nawalparasi district, explosives and Maoist documents from Raisi area of Rukum district yesterday. It added that a bomb disposal team of the security forces also defused three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that had been planted by the Maoists at the Ghartigaun area of Rukum district yesterday.
