OPERATION BUNU: Unravelling Bishal Chaudhary abduction case

KATHMANDU: Police on Saturday made public two persons arrested for their alleged involvement in the abduction case of five-year-old boy Bishal Chaudhary.

The minor was kidnapped on his way home from Pakanajol-based Saraswati Boarding Higher Secondary School.

A police team deployed from the Teku-based Metropolitan Crime Division arrested Raju BK (26) and Bishnu Pandey (26) from Gaighat in Udayapur and Mathali of Ramechhap districts, respectively, on Friday.

BK, who was also the mastermind behind the abduction, had been planning to kidnap Chaudhary for the past one month, read a press statement issued by the MCD today.

Kidnapped Chaudhary is the son of BK's close friend Bijay.

The preliminary investigation showed that BK had been managing the resources including mobile phones, manpower and vehicle among others.

Police suspect that the abduction was done due to the financial crisis, which BK was facing for long.

“As per the plan, BK rented a motorcycle from Saugat Shrestha of Chabahil for four days at Rs 1,500 per day on July 26. The following day, BK took Pandey along with him and kidnapped Chaudhary from the school gate at around 3:45 pm,” read the statement.

Then, the duo took the minor to Pandey’s sister, Anita KC’s, rented room in Gothatar of Kageshwari Manahara Municipality-9 in Kathmandu.

After keeping the minor in the rented room for two days, BK made a ransom call of Rs. 5,000,000 from Chaudhary’s parents.

The duo, however, were forced to free Chaudhary due to the mounting pressure as the Metropolitan Crime Investigation Division intensified the search operation.

Chaudhary was later successfully rescued from Kandaghari of Kageshwori-Manahara Municipality-7 in Kathmandu district on July 31, after the five days of captivity.
