Opposition parties obstruct House meeting again
KATHMANDU: Opposition parties including CPN-UML on Friday obstructed the House meeting for the second consecutive day protesting the Constitution amendment bill registered by the government.
Consequently, Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has rescheduled the meeting for 1 pm on Sunday.
The Parliament Secretariat had set the agenda of concluding general discussions on the impeachment motion against the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority Chief Lok Man Singh Karki for the House meeting today.
But, as soon as the meeting began, CPN-ML General Secretary and former Deputy Prime Minister CP Mainali sought a time and said the House could not move ahead with the regular business unless the government withdrew the bill, which he claimed was against national interests.
Then, lawmakers of UML, ML, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party and Rastriya Janamorcha stood up from their seats to obstruct the House.
The parties had obstructed the Parliamentary proceedings on Thursday also.
Mainali's phrase removed from record
Meanwhile, the Parliament saw a heated debate over the phrase "mad dog" used by Mainali during his speech today.
Questioning the rationale behind the amendment bill, Mainali had questioned if the PM was bitten by a mad dog.
Consequently, Nepali Congress lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada objected to the remark and other lawmakers from the ruling party supported him, claiming the phrase was unceremonious for the Parliament.
Then, Speaker Gharti ordered that the phrase be removed from the recordings.
