KATHMANDU, JANUARY 12

More than 110,000 adolescent girls in Kathmandu district are set to be vaccinated with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.

At a program organized by the Public Health Office, Kathmandu, on Sunday, Senior Public Health Administrator Satish Bista revealed that 110,263 girls aged 10–14 from 11 local levels in Kathmandu district will receive the HPV vaccine.

This includes 97,540 school-going girls from Grades 6–10 and 12,723 out-of-school girls aged 10–14. The vaccination will be carried out through 1,101 schools and 146 additional vaccination centers.

A total of 2,412 health workers will be deployed for the vaccination campaign in Kathmandu district, which is scheduled to run from February 5–18.

Basanta Adhikari, Chief of the Public Health Office, Kathmandu, stated that vaccination committees, coordinated by mayors and chairpersons in municipalities, have been formed to ensure the campaign's success.

Nationwide, the government is launching a vaccination campaign against cervical cancer, targeting 1.688 million adolescent girls aged 10–14 from Grades 6–10.
